What do I do?
I am passionate about and deeply enjoy offering clients (couples and individuals) a warm, honest and professional healing relationship that helps them to effectively identify, understand and deal with the difficulty they are experiencing. The core of what I offer is the opportunity for clients to find new ways of relating to themselves and their experience that opens their natural ability to make healthy choices from a place of honesty and compassion toward themselves and their experience. My work is also deeply rooted in trusting the wisdom of the direct embodied experience of whatever is happening, both in the client and myself as therapist. To begin with, I offer clients an initial 6 session contract of weekly one hour long sessions, followed by a review and re-contracting.
Who am I?
I am an experienced and highly skilled Clinical Psychologist (registered with the HPCSA) and Core Process Psychotherapist (trained and registered in the UK at the Karuna Institute).
Core Process Psychotherapy is an embodied psycho-spiritual approach that holds an awareness that each of us is a spiritual being having a human experience. As such, each of us has a “core”, a centre of awareness that is always open and free around which our “process” (thoughts, feelings, emotions) manifests. When the core and our process are held simultaneously in therapy, profound healing and change become possible.
I have worked in a range of settings (including private practice, psychiatric hospitals and medical hospitals) with a wide variety of people (including those with psychiatric labels (depression, anxiety), couples and families, people struggling to recover from traumatic events, people with physical disabilities (spinal cord injuries, loss of limb) and supervision for Health Care Professionals (Doctors, Nurses, Psychologists, Counsellors and Psychotherapists))
Short Biography:
I am a 41 year old man who qualified as a Clinical Psychologist (1997) in South Africa before spending 10 years in the UK working in the NHS and studying Core Process Psychotherapy (2000 to 2010). I am passionately interested in exploring ways of living consciously from my embodied experience and have worked at depth with meditation, dance and movement teachers in South Africa and the UK. I love dancing and also teach OneMovement, a dance/movement framework that encourages conscious embodiment as well as leading retreats (Core Process Psychotherapy and Embodied Consciousness retreats).
